OUR OFFICIAL WATCH PARTY HEADQUARTERS
by Wayne Richards
For any of our new members who haven't attended a watch party, you're missing out on some great fun! Let me tell you how it works.
You arrive at Gators in Brownwood on the day of our scheduled party. When you walk in the front entrance you will be greeted by an alligator. He's not dangerous and won't bother you. Cubs World paid him off to leave us alone.
Next, move your way to the back of the restaurant where you will find Cubs World gathered at long tables sandwiched between enough televisions to get a suntan.
Before the ball game, you will have the opportunity to play other games such as "PICK A PLAYER", "PICK A SCORE" and "PIN THE TAIL ON THE PREZ". Forget that last one. On selected days, we might have 50/50.
During the game there is cheering. Lots of cheering. Cubs World knows how to make noise! I've even seen total strangers walk by and get caught up in our energy.
The food is great, by the way. Just don't get so excited that you start tossing chicken wings around. If you do toss them, toss them MY WAY!
At the end of the party, after the Cubbies chalk up another win, we all walk into the remains of a beautiful day (unless its storming like hell) keeping the happy memory in our minds and hearts. GO CUBBIES! COME TO GATORS!

TRIVIA NIGHT AT COLONY
by Dan Marx
Cubs World members had a little different twist to their August membership meeting when they competed against each other in a Chicago sports trivia contest.
While it was mostly Chicago Cubs related questions, there were also, Bulls, Bears, White Sox, and Blackhawks brain teasers thrown in.

Cubs World members had a little different twist to their August membership meeting when they competed against each other in a Chicago sports trivia contest.
While it was mostly Chicago Cubs related questions, there were also, Bulls, Bears, White Sox, and Blackhawks brain teasers thrown in.
The contest was run by Had Oshry, best known for Friday night trivia, and John Murphy, well known for running sports trivia contests throughout The Villages. The winning team was Karen Pickelsimer, Larry Abramovitz, Dan Marx, Dick Stone, and Chris Stannard.
NOTE FROM THE PREZ
I have received quite a few thumbs up for booking this trivia presentation. But one consistent observation from many is that the questions were too difficult.
We can always search for something easier down the pike. John and Had worked hard to design the contest mostly around the Cubs. Thank you gents!

THE BLEACHER BUM REPORT

The aggressive Chicago Cubs stand at 67-49 following a dramatic 3-2 extra-inning win over the Toronto Blue Jays. President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer loaded up ahead of the trade deadline by acquiring pitchers Kevin Gausman, Clay Holmes, Braxton Garrett, and Ryan Zeferjahn, alongside bench bat Tyrone Taylor, solidifying the club's World Series aspirations.

President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer loaded up ahead of the trade deadline by acquiring pitchers Kevin Gausman, Clay Holmes, Braxton Garrett, and Ryan Zeferjahn, alongside bench bat Tyrone Taylor, solidifying the club's World Series aspirations.
Trade Deadline Additions
STARTING PITCHING
- Added Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes to reinforce the rotation.
- BULLPEN AND DEPTH
- Brought in arm-missing reliever Ryan Zeferjahn and left-hander Braxton Garrett (recalled from Triple-A Iowa).
- POSITION PLAYERS
- Acquired right-handed bat Tyrone Taylor from the Mets.
- “It’s a big commitment by the front office,” Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner said. “And all the moves that they made, the emphasis is on the roster for this year, these next two months and beyond. I think the fans understand that. They appreciate that. And they pour that into us, too.”
- Gausman, Holmes and Taylor can all reach free agency in the coming offseason. Holmes has a player option ($12 million), but the expectation is that it will be declined. To land those three players, the Cubs shipped away highly ranked infielder Jefferson Rojas #63 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list) to the Mets and sent prospects (outfielder Brett Bateman and infielder Ty Southisene) to the Blue Jays.
- The Cubs also traded catcher Moises Ballesteros , who graduated from Pipeline’s rankings this year after opening the season as Chicago’s top prospect and a Top 100 player, and righty Mason McGwire (who was steadily climbing the Cubs’ Top 30 list this year) to the Angels in order to land Zeferjahn.
- Hoyer showed a willingness to take some risk by trading away young talent -- Ballesteros and Rojas atop the list -- to get exactly what the 2026 Cubs needed. The Major League pitching staff has been riddled with injuries and the relief corps needed an impact arm. Gausman, Holmes and Zeferjahn make the group stronger. And with Matt Shaw (15-day IL) still out with a persistent left hand injury, Taylor gives manager Craig Counsell a versus-lefties bat who can also offer sound defense around the outfield.
- Setting up an October rotation could be interesting
Maybe the Cubs lack a surefire No. 1 starter for a playoff game, but the North Siders suddenly have multiple options. Any one of Matthew Boyd, Shota Imanaga, Gausman or Holmes could take the ball in an opener. And the depth behind them -- Edward Cabrera, David Peterson, Colin Rea and Javier Assad -- suddenly looks solid. - The biggest series the Cub will have is the four games set against the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of this month. Wrigley Field will be rocking!
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!
by Wayne Richards
I tried to hire CLARK THE BEAR, the official Cubs mascot, to greet our new members. However, he wasn't available. So, I grabbed a bear from the Ocala National Forest as a fill in. Give him a jar of honey and he'll even do tricks!
In any case, we always love to welcome new people to our family!

YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID
by Wayne Richards
I love vendors! Those hard-working men and women who negotiate steep aisles and walkways at Wrigley Field have always earned my deepest respect.
At Wrigley, beer and iced cream vendors carry cases adorned with a strap. Aside from chiropractor visits, this makes quite a bit more sense to shlep around heavy containers of product.
But, amazingly enough, there are a number of ball parks particularly along the East coast where the vendors use their shoulders or heads to carry things around.
I can understand a hat adorned with a dozen freshly made cotton candy cones or even a giant visor of snow cones dripping down a vendor's back. But when it comes to carrying a refrigerator on your cranium, that crosses the line!

After researching this phenomenon, I have learned that many vendors adhere to this strange practice
because management says it adds to the atmosphere with showmanship. Personally, I think it adds to these poor vendors medical bills.
On average, ballpark vendors earn about $15.00 to $35 per hour. They rely on tips to make anything decent.
Wrigley vendors do it the smart way although even with straps they fight gravity all day long. I know prices are ridiculous, but, if at all possible, please tip these vendors.
As far as vendors elsewhere is concerned, I hope management invests in some straps so that this amazingly stupid practice of carrying merchandise on your heads can be eliminated.

I have always stated that Cubs World consists of amazing individuals. They are sharp, talented and wonderful folks.
I love getting phone calls from Cub fans eager to join our club. I enjoy hearing their stories about how they discovered us. You will be happy to know that Cubs World has developed a great reputation.
I'm proud to serve as your president. But I would like to ask you to do me a favor. Call me. I'm not lonely just to let you know. But I am looking for ideas.
By ideas, I mean things that would make our club shine even more than it does. For instance, a few of you came up to me after a meeting to suggest BEAN BAG BASEBALL. We set it up and....behold....it was a huge success that will now become a regularly scheduled event.
I'd like to hear more ideas and suggestions from you! What would you like to see added to Cubs World? Let's talk!
You may call me anytime at 630 390 4212. Leave a voice mail if I don't answer. I'll return your call as soon as I can. You can also text or write me at [email protected].
An open invitation also exists for those of you who would like to attend a board meeting. I think you would enjoy the experience. Everyone should have a voice.
I look forward to talking to you!
