WAYNE RICHARDS MUSIC CENTRAL

Bill McMahon will soon be resigning his position as our Cubs World president. He has served with distinction since the club was founded in 2016 after the Cubs won the series.
A retired teacher and passionate Cub fan, McMahon was recognized as the obvious choice for president of the fifth baseball club in The Villages. Even before the club was incorporated, he held meetings that resembled a classroom setting.
The wonderful work that Bill has started will be taken up by several teams of individuals. However, don't expect Bill McMahon to drive off into the darkness. We will continue to hear him cheer on the Cubbies along with us. We will always be grateful for what you have helped make of CUBS WORLD!

BY THE WAY.......DID YOU KNOW?
Cubs World's very own Bill McMahon was a multi sport medalist in The Villages recent Senior games. Not only did he get a silver medal in KICKBALL , but he got a bronze medal in the BEAN BAG TOSS!
If any Cubs World members medaled in the Senior games, please let us know. Don't be bashful.

CHICAGO SPORTS ICON CHET COPPOCK KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT
One of Chicago's most controversial sports broadcasters, Chet Coppock, has been lost due to an automobile accident in South Carolina. He was riding with a friend at the time. The cause of the crash will be investigated.
Coppick will be remembered for his commanding interview style, as well as his personal eccentricities. For instance, Chet used to carry around a brief case. However, it contained no valuable documents. It was, however, filled with cans of diet coke.
Chet Coppick's idol and greatest influence was Chicago Cub's announcer, Jack Brickhouse. “Jack "Brickhouse wasn't just good or great, he was the single most versatile broadcaster in Chicago history,” Coppock would recall.
Chet will be remembered within the industry as a man who encouraged other broadcasters to do well. Among the individuals who began their careers due to Coppock's guidance is David Kaplan, a man who has repeatedly proclaimed his love for the Cubs.
To fans, Chet Coppick will be remembered as the colorful man in the fur coat who seemed to know everything about sports. He will be greatly missed.

One of the most overlooked perks of being a Cubs World member is enjoying the interaction of the Cubs World Facebook page. With 70 members looking at almost daily posts, it's fun to have the banter back and forth of great Cubs wins, and discussion about coaching and management decisions. It's all live and in real time. Unlike our newsletter, which gives you room to express your comments but only comes out once a month , Facebook gives you time to express your views whenever you like.
The page is Cubs World The Villages and is moderated by Jack Herbon. Just send Jack an email at lottoguy@aol.com, and take us for a test spin to see how you like us. We're sure you will.

THE DREAM GIG OF GIGS!
Chicago Cub's organist. Gary Pressman, has, perhaps, the greatest musician's gig ever...especially since he is one of the most knowledgeable individuals in the game. To be able to take his two passions, music and baseball and tie them together in a unique career is sheer heaven to Pressman.
It is also a challenging day by day experience, particularly when difficulties come along such as the seventh inning stretch performed by Mike Ditka. Never has there been a more bizarre presentation of this classic song than by "DA COACH" But Pressman kept his cool and laughed it off.
Gary is ready to please with a wide variety of songs selected to entertain people of all ages, particularly during rain delays.
Gary Pressman has one other responsibility that many may not be aware of. Since there no no electrical or digital technology installed in the friendly confines dedicated to measuring the distance of home runs. It is up to a selected soul to estimate and report. Mr. Pressman is that man!
BY THE WAY...
Did you know that the first baseball park to install an organ was Wrigley Field? The year was 1941 and a talented gent named Roy nelson entertained the masses for the first time. The attendance that day was less than 9,000 and we lost to St. Louis. This is an old story....huh gang?

MAY 6TH MEETING WAS FILLED WITH FUN AND TRIVIA
With over 80 Cubs World members on hand, they were treated to the premier game show host in The Villages, Ric Mitchell. We played electronic team trivia . Each table of 6 was given mini IPads to record their answers. Many teams were able to come up with the correct answers, but the team that tapped in the quickest with the correct answer was able to get 2 extra bonus points. The contest was loaded with Cubs trivia questions, and the final question was the one that separated the winner from a very tight pack. Team 4 was the closest to the final answer , and was able to walk home with $10 gift cards for each member.

PARTY READY FOOD SUGGESTIONS!
For those of us who believe that the Cubbies will make it to the World Series this year, it's never too early to make up our personal menus. I would like to suggest some items that are currently available at the Friendly Confines.
Directly to the left you will find enough garlic to season a small country in one pile of fries accented with a generous sprinkling of parmesan and blue cheese.

Next....enjoy a properly made Polk Street breaded pork shoulder sandwich. This actually doesn't make any sense since POLK STREET is on the "south side". Not only that...It's served on a New England bun. Oh yes....don't forget to load the thing with pickles and a special spicy dijon sauce.
Wrigley field even offers sheep heads soup if you're in an exotic mood. Personally, I always go for the joys of simple cheese nachos or a Chicago Style hot dog! THE WEINER TAKES IT ALL!

PEDRO STROP'S CAR STOLEN BEFORE GAME WITH LA.
Even with the knowledge of Pedro Strop's car being stolen, he demonstrated his devotion to the team by choosing to address his pitching responsibilities rather than run off with the police. "I might be needed in this game!" Strop proclaimed.
In fact, he WAS needed and while on the mound the police were involved in a chase to recover the car! There is no report as to whether or not they managed to stop the car and retrieve it. But Pedro Strop did record his third save of the season. TALK ABOUT CONCENTRATION!

NETFLIX AND THE CUBBIES
So what does Netflix have to do with Wrigley Field? It is one of the many Chicago locations use in a new Netflix film called, THE LAST SUMMER. It is a simple straight forward story about three young people who decide to spend a productive summer partying it up before heading to college.
Although the footage at Wrigley is very limited, there are EXTRAS and BEHIND THE SCENES segments available and they offer a fascinating glance of the friendly confines as the cast is given carte blanche to explore. How many of us wish we could do that?

A SMILE AS BRIGHT AS
WRIGLEY LIGHTS
Coral Murphy not only has a famous last name, but also a wealth of memories. Murphy's Bleachers has been voted by many magazines as the most famous sports bar in the world! Coral has grown with the legend.
"I chopped many a tomato and cried too many onion tears, threw hot dogs out the window, made chili and soup when Cubs were out of town and during off season, " she revealed. "I also cleaned bathrooms when I started out."
Through the years, Murphy's Bleacher's has been frequented by journalists, celebrities and sports legends. Said Coral, "Jody Davis come in a special time to teach our two and four year old sons how to hold a bat. Both of my sons have been bat boys and now James and Brian are owners of Murphys...along with their step mom."
Murphy's is a party bar, which means, anything can happen! Legend has it some man took his sneakers off, placed them on the bar and demanded they be filled with beer. Of course, there are additional people who have caused mayhem.
"The sink in the men's room has been ripped off the wall on weekend ballgame days 4 times!" proclaimed Coral. "Each time it happened we put in a sturdier one and finally steel cemented and reinforced in every way possible."
Said Coral, "Once while standing on the bar doing raffles, one of the Casa Blanca fans almost beheaded me!" As far as we know, Coral Murphy has not lost her head over this business. Its a good thing too because she is a pleasant, shy and interesting individual who graces CUBS WORLD or any world she enters.

A gathering of over fifty people were on hand on the 25th of April at Gator's in Brownwood for a Cube viewing party. Although the Cubs , unfortunately, lost the game to the Dodgers by a score of 2-1, there were still winners from a collection of fun games such as 50/50, Cubs squares, the most productive score and pick the final score...which in reality is something we'd like to forget!

OUR NEW CUBS WORLD DIRECTOR OF MEMBER RELATIONS READY TO TAKE ON THE TASK!
Karen Pickelsimer is a people person. Her experiences as a former medical technologist, marketing client manager and travel advisor demonstrate her ability to work with people, which she has done in 89 countries!
Pickelsimer is an admittedly outspoken individual with a passion for sports. She drives a white Honda with a Cubs license plate on the back and a Chicago bears plate on the front. Oh yes...don’t forget the Cubs flag that proudly stands in her back yard.
Sports have always surrounded her life. “I have always been a sports fan from my childhood rooting for the Cleveland Indians with my dad,” proclaimed Karen. “I remember being dragged around a golf course as a caddie. I married an avid golfer, high school football player, tennis player, bowler and softball player.”
Karen has two sons, both born in Louisville, Kentucky. But, they spent their school years in St. Charles, Illinois. “Illinois has been my place of residence for a total of 39 years, with three separate moves,” she states. This, of course, was plenty of time to be bitten by the Cubbies bug."
Karen Pickelsimer enthusiastically embraces the CUBS WORLD challenges ahead and to her we say, WELCOME ABOARD!

THE BLEACHER BUM REPORT
by Jack Herbon
Wow, have the Cubs been on roll since my last posting! From April 15 thru May 11th the Cubs have 18 wins and just 5 losses. Everything seems to be clicking right now. From great pitching to walkoff home runs this team is showing everyone what it can do. I just loved that fifteen inning win over the Milwaukee Brewers!
If I had to point out any concern right now that would be the erratic pitching from Yu Davish. His control is just not there right now so he is the one player to watch. The hitting is what we expected from this team. As for Addison Russel's return to the team. I would not be surprised if the Cubs trade him. The Cubs are deep with infielders and they have a great prospect in the minors named Nico Hoerner.
And lastly, I have gotten wind of a Cubs documentary currently under production. The subject will be the 50th anniversary of the 1969 season. I have so many great memories of that year. I'm especially interested to see what they have to say about the Left Field Bleacher Bums. This documentary should be out in last summer.
