THE CUBBIES NEED TO FOCUS
It will be very interesting after baseball begins for the Cubs during a night game with Milwaukee on the 24th of July to see how the team will operate.  Will they work together like a well oiled machine or simply display obvious flaws which need maintenance?
If David Ross, the new manager, is taking a serious approach and attitude toward the upcoming strange season.  He will have many hurdles to jump and things to consider for the well being of his team.  But Ross insists he is ready for the challenge!  GO CUBBIES!

GUIDELINES MUST BE FOLLOWED!
Here are some official CORINA VIRUS guidelines that must be followed.  It is interesting to note that many ball players are not happy with the situation.
NO SPITTING.
NO HIGH-FIVING.
NO HUGS.
PLAYERS TEMPERATURES MUST BE TAKEN SEVERAL TIMES EACH DAY.
CORONA VIRUS TESTS WILL BE ADMINISTERED SEVERAL TIMES EACH WEEK.
BALLS WILL BE THROWN OUT AFTER BEING TOUCHED BY MULTIPLE PLAYERS.
POSTGAME SHOWERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
NON ACTIVE PLAYERS WILL BE SEATED IN THE STANDS.

Lets hope these games will lift the spirit of baseball fans who have experienced disappointment and frustration.
PLAY BALL!   Please share your opinion with us.  Is a shortened season a good idea or should we have waited to 2021?

GOLF SCRAMBLE WAS FUN FOR ALL
by Dan Marx
32 Cubs World members had a great time at the July 15th golf scramble. It was held Wednesday 7/15 at Tarpon Boil / Redfish Run. Two great things happened.
We finished a few minutes before we got a few sprinkles. and none of the 8 teams finished over par. The low score at Tarpon Boil was four under par. That was team #2 - Bobby Smith, Karen Parish, Joseph Gale, and Pam Stevens. The low score at Redfish Run was two under par was team number 4 with Pat Quinn. Mary Quinn, Jim Hill, and Mel Cirullo.
Shot of the day was Everett Wilson on team # 3. He drove his tee shot 245 yards on the green of the par four 9th hole of Tarpon Boil. His team made the putt for an eagle. Great going, Everett !!!
Many thanks to Jim Guleserian for organizing this fun event.

SAM AND ANGIE PAGORIA
WITNESSES TO A MASTERPIECE
by Dan Marx

August 19th , 1969 was a memorable day for Sam and Angie Pagoria. The Cubs had just come off an extremely successfully West Coast trip and were 8 games ahead in the NL east. Ken Holtzman was pitching that day and Sam and Angie were in the stands. They witnessed a game without a single strikeout, but, oh yeah, they also witnessed a masterpiece by Holtzman, a NO HITTER. They thought that this was just the spark that would let the Cubs cruise in to first place for their first pennant in 24 years. But, unfortunately, we all know the end of this story.

DARVISH HAS SOMETHING UP HIS SLEEVE!
Yu Darvish has spent time developing something that might help the Cubs move along to victory in this shortened season...a new pitch in his repertoire!  He even has a name for it.  Its called the SUPREME!
Cubs pitching coach, Tommy Hottovy (who recently recovered from a case of cover-19) said recently, "It's fun to watch him pitch because he can do things a lot of us can't."  Hottovy is also impressed with Yu's ever-increasing command of the English language.  This, of course, makes for a much better communication overall.
Feedback regarding this new style of pitch, which is a hybrid of various moves, has been very positive.  So don't be surprised to see if YU will DO something New for You!

NEIGHBORS CHEERING THE CUBS ON TO VICTORY...BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY...SAFETY!
As David Ross and his team prepare for an abridged 60 game season in a spring training session they're dubbing, "SUMMER CAMP", fans everywhere are doing what they can to keep the enthusiasm level as high as possible in the midst of a very strange and challenging year.  This is not an easy task since nobody will be allowed to enter the friendly confines.
Depending on the covid situation, groups might still be allowed to enjoy the roof tops.  If this is so, it will be interesting to see how everyone is seated with social distancing in mind.  They may also be the only individuals to glance upon a game in person this season.

A TOMORROW FOR MORROW?
If there is a future for Brandon Morrow, it will not be with the Chicago Cubs.   It was anticipated in 2017 that his acquisition from the Dodgers would be helpful to our bullpen.  But, that has not panned out.
After one decent season with the Cubs, he started developing elbow problems.  Injuries kept him out of the 2019 season.  Even after he had a stint in the minors, there are questions and concerns  about his ability to take on the responsibilities of a major league  closer, particularly in a shortened season where every play is crucial.  It is hoped that his health will return and that he can return to the game somewhere.

GARY PRESSY REFLECTS ON THIRTY-THREE YEARS
From a perch on high where the view was undoubtably one of  the most dramatic in baseball, Gary Pressy entertained us all with his talent.  He filled Wrigley with the right music at the right time with impeccable taste and style.
GO CUBS GO might be the most recognizable song with present day fans, but Gary's favorite musical ode was an old tune dating back to 1969
entitled, "HEY HEY HOLY MACKEREL"
Said Pressy, "A lot of times ushers used to bring up requests."  Gary was always willing to please if he knew the tune.  He rarely had a problem.  His repertoire was huge.
He also has a wonderful knowledge of the game.  Many times, broadcasters would search high and low for the answer to a trivia question and nine times out of ten, Gary knew the answer.  In addition, it is a little known fact that Gary was the OFFICIAL "go to" guy whenever an estimate was needed regarding how far a home rn ball traveled.
Gary Pressy took great pride in playing the anthem and also the famous half time classic, TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME.  Although everyone loved when Harry Carey led the crowd in a rousing rendition, it is the voice of ex Dodger announcer Vin Scully that impressed him the most.  "He must've been an Irish Tenor, " said Gary.  "What a tremendous job he did!"  The same goes for you Mr. Pressy.  The same goes for you.

CALLING DOCTOR MAYER...CALLING DOCTOR MAYER!
by Wayne Richards
Dr. David Mayer is a season-seat holding die-hard Cub fan who is deeply concerned about public safety.  His concerns transcend the current pandemic problem.
Mayer believes that the United States has been behind in addressing safe health environments for decades and is intent on calling attention to these inadequacies  in dramatic fashion. How?  By walking to ball parks throughout the United States!
Dr. Mayer once served as a skilled and very respected anesthesiologist at Chicago's University of Illinois Medical Center.  However, his passion currently involves focusing on an organization he founded called, the PATIENT SAFETY MOVEMENT FOUNDATION.  " The foundation reaches across 51 nations and 4,600 hospitals, " said the Doctor.
By the time Dr. Mayer will conclude his walk in February of 2021, he will have worn out his shoes trudging along 2, 600 miles of challenging terrain.  But he fully intends to complete his journey taking inspiration from the motion picture, FORREST GUMP!
Just like everyone else who has taken the coronavirus seriously, David has remained home with his family binge watching television shows and revisiting old movies.  It was watching Tom Hanks iconic motion picture hike that the idea for a marathon quest of his own materialized.
Back in May of 2020, Dr. Mayer began his trip using the Cubs spring training facility, SLOAN PARK , as a starting point.
Thus far, he has visited 10 cactus league sites and six major league ball parks.
Upon arriving at a venue, either someone from the Mayer family or another family who has lost a loved one are invited to place a memorial stone in a designated location.  Of course, an unexpected roadblock to progress has come along in the form of a pandemic.  But the good doctor is fully committed to completing his mission.
Dr. David Mayer loves people and he certainly loves his Cubbies.  Throughout this difficult endeavor he has not complained.  Wouldn't it be great to take a walk in his shoes?
