WAYNE RICHARDS MUSIC CENTRAL

A STATEMENT FROM DAN MARX
I'm hoping you have all enjoyed the surprise. It just makes us want to see Cubs baseball that much more.
Does anybody know the answer to the trivia question within the video ? I can't believe I got it right. Please leave the answer. No googling , please.

DOES BASEBALL SEEM LIKE JUST A DREAM?
This beautiful photo was taken in the exact spot where the classic FIELD OF DREAMS motion picture was filmed. Now a tourist attraction, the facility does Iowa proud!
Before the virus hit, a special game between the Chicago White Sox and Yankees was scheduled for this year! But, with the potential of the elimination of American and National leagues, such a game is not likely to take place. However, with the Sox and Cubs being in the newly configured central division, a CUBS/SOX matchup would not only make sense, but also enhance an ever-growing rivalry.
Nothing has been set in stone as of yet. But a game like this is certainly something we can all dream about.

MASK TIME! LOOK FAMILIAR?
This photo was taken during the SPANISH flu epidemic of 1918. As you can see, life went on despite the virus dangers that lurked about. However, if a ball player removed the mask at anytime during the game, he would be dismissed and arrested immediately!
The unexpected and horrific pandemic took the lives of a number of ball players and sports writers, including big league outfielder, Larry Chapell for the Chicago White Sox.
The flu struck 500 million people around the world.

THE GIG OF GIGS!
For someone who loves both music and baseball, I cannot imagine a finer gig on the face of the earth than cranking out tunes at the friendly confines! For over three decades the talented Gary Pressy filled the air with his music from a roost that offers one of the finest views in any venue.
With Pressy's retirement, great care has been put into finding an individual who can carry the torch in high style.
John Benedeck is one of three organists hired by the Cubs organization to fill a very big pair of shoes. His audition included renditions of SWEET CAROLINE, BILLIE JEAN and HERE COMES THE SUN.
People in the neighborhood were surprised to hear an organ blasting away without the warm sound of a gathering crowd, the call of vendors and public address announcements setting up the stage for another great day at the ball park. It must've sounded "ghost like" and unsettling to some. But, this music could also be perceived as an overture for a season soon to begin. Let us all keep hope alive!

CORAL MURPHY REMEMBERS!
In the shadow of Wrigley Field stands a legendary venue known as Murphy's Bleachers. Through decades it has been and continues to be a gathering place for a variety of celebrities, politicians, sports figures and most importantly CUBS fans!
From 1979 to 1984, Coral Murphy observed this parade of humanity and remembers certain individuals with fondness.
"Keith Moreland came over and showed my 3 and 5 year old sons how to hold a bat!" recalls Murphy.
Coral also recalls when Rick Sutcliffe stood on the rooftop and tossed autographed coasters into the legendary BEER GARDEN out back. "There were quite a few players who stopped in back then." states Murphy. "Yosh, the Cubs clubhouse manager, was one of my favorite people. He often had his goofy looking fishing hat on. He would bring over cracked bats and other items to be raffled off."
On occasion, Coral found herself being approached by legendary sports broadcasters such as Al Lerner. "I liked when Al came in and interviewed," recalls Coral. "He would talk with me for twenty minutes and about 5 seconds would appear that night on tv that night. But he would tell you before the interview what he wanted to talk about and generally was very personable."
These memories will remain with her forever and we are grateful that she has shared some of them with Cubs World.

IT'S MONEY BALL Y'ALL!
Poor fans. We have had to put up with old game broadcasts or live Korean baseball at 4am in order to get our fix of baseball. I happened to catch some of these games and was actually quite impressed at the joy the players seem to radiate from an empty, albeit, attractive ball park. I also had difficulty deciding whether to have breakfast or a hot dog!
Be that as it may, everyone in Cubs World as well as fans everywhere are waiting with bated breath for the MLB to make an announcement as to whether or not we will have some kind of season in 2020. As your anthem singer and correspondent for this newsletter, I enjoy perusing hundreds of sources. In doing so I have been piecing together a puzzle of pieces that cumulatively suggest that the actual virus may not even be the key element in their final decision. Unfortunately, money may be causing the log jam.
When asked about the start of a shortened season, most players display a disgusting lackluster enthusiasm, particularly with reduced compensation on the horizon. So, with managements cutting budgets and major league players BALKING, where is this season heading? Don't be surprised if the players use this "off time" to organize a strike.
There is a solution to this, but in three months I have not heard one anchor, color commentator or analyst even allude to the following idea. let minor league players play a major season starting in July. They will be happy to do that because minor league pay is usually quite anemic. Who knows? Many of these hungry and eager players will entertain us while carving their way to the future, while multi-millionaires wallow in their greed.

WHY IS IT?
1. Why is it that pitchers are required to come to a complete stand before throwing a pitch?
2. Why is it there are no rules dictating the size of a baseball field other than the infield?
3. Why is it that umpires cannot confer with players or spectators?
4. Why is it that if a base runner passes up another base runner, the one passed is automatically called out? They're all running for home base anyway, so hat's the big deal?
5. Players, until the Corona virus reared its ugly head, were allowed to spit everywhere except the baseball! WHY IS THAT?
WHAT MYSTIFIES YOU ABOUT BASEBALL? LET US KNOW! WE ALWAYS LOVE HEARING
