So? Obviously, the Cubbies are trying to find their way and work out some issues. The Cubs World staff would like to ask our members a question right off the bat! (yuk yuk.) What improvements are most crucial if the "men in Blue" are expected to play more effectively this season? We'd love to hear from you on this or any issue brought up in this publication. and welcome to the June edition of THE CUBS WORLD CHATTER!

LOOK FOR THE RED WORD
Usually in this newsletter you will usually find a special word printed in RED! However, since there will be no membership meeting in July, you will not discover one anywhere in this edition of the CUBS WORLD CHATTER.
For the benefit of newer members who might not know what the RED WORD is all about... here's an explanation.
When you discover a word printed in red somewhere write it down on a piece of paper or a card and bring it to the June membership meeting at Colony. You will then drop it in a special jar designated for two drawings.
The winner of each will then become the proud owner of a Publix gift card! We're fresh out of new cars.
Keep this in mind for next month and GOOD LUCK!

A TOUGH QUESTION
by Wayne Richards and Dan Marx
Welcome once again to our MEMBERS CORNER..a special gathering place where one can speak their mind freely. This months topic is a tough one, but we sure would love to hear your opinion.
Should this be David Ross's last season? The recent loss to the Reds in a near no-hitter seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back for many fans. The rumblings on Twitter and other sources demonstrate anger and frustration.
What say you?

WHAT HAPPENS AT WATCH PARTIES
by Wayne Richards
One very enjoyable activity tailor- made for Cubs World are watch parties! Gators in Brownwood has become the "go to" venue for some time and many attendees have become great friends. After all, as I've stated many times, CUBS WORLD is like a family.
This is important for our newer members to know because we'd love for you to join us.

Just like at membership meetings, you can play our famous 50-50 drawing. There are also some additional games of chance for everyone to enjoy.
The food is great with a wide ranging menu. There are plenty of televisions on the wall to catch the game.
On occasion, when it can be arranged, rival clubs such as the St. Louis Cardinal club are seated in the same section of the room. I remember this happening one time and the kidding back and forth between fans was hysterical.
I remember one time sitting next to a very vocal Cubs World member who's rantings were interesting and "dead on" with regards to the game. Some time during the bottom of the fifth ,when we were behind and the center fielder dropped a routine fly, my fellow Cub Fan proclaimed, "I need a drink!" No problem. Gators will accommodate. COME JOIS US NEXT TIME!!!!!!

GOLF SCRAMBLE REPORT
by Dan Marx
The PGA tournament started Thursday , May 18th in Rochester, NY, and on the same day Cubs World had their golf outing at Yankee Clipper / Southern Star.
It was a beautiful day for golf, and there were some terrific golf feats that occurred that day.
On the Southern Star course, John Curtis had the closest to the pin when he knocked it 2’11” from the hole. And then to fatten his wallet a little bit more he was part of a 4 man team that came in with an incredible FIVE under par score. John’s teammates were his wife, Marge Curtis, Pam Stevens, and Joe Gale. Very well done!
The second place score was even par and the team ofJim Guleserian , Betty Guleserian, Dan Marx, and Dale Marx cashed in.
On the Yankee Clipper course, which is a little longer because of two par fours, it came down to a tie. Because of the tiebreaker, the winners were the team of Don Jeppsen, Terry Burke, and Dean Paulson with a score of 2 under par. Also, with a score of 2 under par in second place, was Jeff Finesilver, Jeff McDonald, and Wayne Babor. The closest to the pin at Yankee Clipper was Jeff McDonald with a shot that settled 8’ 4” from the hole.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to Jim Guleserian for all of his hard work in putting the tournament together. Many thanks to Betty Guleserian also.

THE CUBS WORLD STRANGE BASEBALL CARD OF THE MONTH
by Wayne Richards
Is it just me, or does Chuck Cottier look like he just ran out of the Cubs locker room? The old one was a smell to behold from what I've heard.
Does anyone remember Chuck? He played second, third and shortstop...of course not at the same time. He also excelled in basketball and football.
Charles Keith Cottier never played with the Men in Blue, but he was a coach for us from 1988 to 1994.
The Cubs were 77-85 in his first year of coaching the Cubs. Maybe that explains why he looks like such a sour puss.

HERE A CUB....THERE A CUB....EVERYWHERE A CUB FAN!!!!

Do you recognize the ball field above? It is called Principal Park. Why is it full all season long? That's an easy answer. It's filled with Cub fans!
If you thought the fans in Chicago were fanatical, you should check out our Iowa neighbors! These people live and breathe baseball.
I remember one spring not too long ago when my wife and I visited Sloan Park in Arizona. At our hotel, it was always fun to head for breakfast and speak with baseball enthusiasts. The most animated, funny and enthusiastic breakfasters were always from Iowa! It was like lighting up a sparkler when trying to start a conversation.
"I'm from the Chicago area, " I'd say. "Holy _ _ _ _ really?" responded Mr. Iowa. "I dream of visiting Wrigley some day. But it's so damned expensive! Only 3 bucks for a hot dog at Principal! They also have a big hot dog machine that blasts out tube steaks like a cannon! Beer is cheaper." (FYI...there is currently an occasional special at Principal. $10.00 for a dog and suds.)
Perhaps the most important factor of the Iowa Cubs is that at any given time one can witness future major leaguers developing right in front of your eyes! Said Mr. Iowa, "These guys play great ball. You can tell they're really working hard to get someplace."
There is quite a bit of truth in that statement. After all, when the Chicago Cubs did their magic and won the series in 2016, 16 of the men on the roster had once played with the Iowa Cubs! Talk about a Cubs love connection!
Naturally, being a grass roots baseball experience, there are special attractions for the fans such as games, crazy mascot antics, music and fireworks. But the millions of fans who visit this baseball oasis just outside of Des Moines will tell you that the real attraction is the game itself. GO CUBBIES!!!

SPEAKING OF MINOR LEAGUE TEAMS
by Wayne Richards
When Annie and me were in the process of moving to the Villages, we decided to spend the night at a very nice hotel in Montgomery, Alabama. After settling down in our room, I relaxed by reading the local newspaper while the tv was on to a local station.
One commercial seemed to pop on every ten minutes. We weren't paying too much attention to it, but we kept hearing the word BISQUITS. We both assumed the area was famous for biscuits. But, little did we know that the Montgomery Biscuits were a successful and popular baseball team which televised games locally. In fact, they were a Cubbie affiliate at one time!
The memory of this trip has remained strong. So, I decided to research the names of ball clubs all over the United States. There are a few that really crack me up. I'd like to share them with you.
First, I am reminded of two organizations back up north near Chicago. THE SHAUMBURG BOOMERS is located right next to Schaumburg Executive airport. The name strikes me funny since the airport restaurant , PILOT PETES, serves a killer chili! (Wonder if the team eats there for lunch?)
Then there is the pride of Rosemont, THE CHICAGO DOGS! I'm not sure if the name pays tribute to the Chicago style hot dogs, or if it's a description of how the team is. Never mind about that last comment. I just checked. The team is 14 and 5 at this writing.
Just for fun, lets check out some more minor league teams and their strange names and logos.

I wonder just how this team got its name. Maybe it's because there's always a hole in the lineup.
Their real slogan is 'SOCKINGLY FUN!" This popular team in the Appalachian country is the pride of North Carolina!
By the way, here is a bulletin for our resident bobble head collector. You might want to make a trip to take advantage of procuring a Socksquatch bobble head!
Seats are now available behind home plate for $9.00.
The great Ernie Banks always had a slogan for the cubs each year. He'd say things like "The Cubs will shine in 69." I'd like to see the Sock puppets enjoy the same tradition. I'll start them off....
