WAYNE RICHARDS MUSIC CENTRAL

HAPPY DECEMBER FROM THE CHATTER
by Wayne Richards
When I lived in Chicago, there was a chatter alright....RIGHT FROM MY TEETH! I publicly announce that I cannot stand Winter!!!
Of course, the weather is much better in Florida. It is also time for the holidays to rev up to full throttle! However, even with all the joyous excitement many people embrace this time of year, it seems empty to yours truly because there is no baseball. (The Bears aren't doing very much to fill in that void.)
I'm still amazed that the Cubs won over 80 games before the final chill set in. So, perhaps, with a different communication between manager and players, we just might take things into the post and stay there a while.
I can't think of a better holiday gift than that!!!!

AND NOW....SOMETHING TO REFLECT ON!

RED WORD
Words do indeed have power...particularly if they're printed in red. If you can find a word printed in red somewhere in this edition of the Chatter, you will then have a chance to win a gift card!
Simply find the word, write it down on a piece of paper or a card and bring it to the membership meeting in January. You can then place it in a special jar for a drawing.
By the way, this month's word is the same as last month's. Amazing how that works eh?
Good luck to each and every one of you!

WHOM HAS SANTA BROUGHT US?
by Wayne Richards
From "Wrigley North" to the "real" Wrigley field comes a man named Craig. He is well respected for keeping Milwaukee brewing along, but is this change of style productive for us?
Many people feel that for a $40 million five year deal, Craig Counsell is in a great position to help the men in blue reach the world series.
There are two things that are interesting to note. First, on the bright side, he led the Brewers to five playoffs in six years. But secondly, darkness fell upon Milwaukee because the team fell like shooting stars in post season.
This second reality has me concerned and I'm sure it's also on the minds of many Cubs fans. It's not even Christmas yet and already the poor guy is feeling pressure. Why? A great many Milwaukee fans are not only disappointed, but very angry and even betrayed about what has transpired. They are being quite vocal about this.
In recent years, a great many Brewers fans have complained about the number of Cubs fans that have attended games in Beer Town. I'll tell you something. Their attendance in recent years has been less than desired. Chicagoans help fill seats, bring some excitement to the joint and help bolster profits.
I really would like to know what the Cubs team members feel about what has transpired. Is the team ignited or feeling unsure about things?
I've mentioned in this newsletter on a number of occasions that I used to have breakfast with Jack Brickhouse. He made an interesting statement that I've never forgotten. Said the Brick, "Nobody ever really knows what the true mood is in the locker room at any given time....neither the press nor the fans!"
I guess time will tell.
What are your feelings? Please feel free to comment.

YOUR NEW CUBS WORLD PRESIDENT
by Wayne Richards
One of the first things my wife and I did when we moved to the Villages five years ago was join CUBS WORLD. From the very start, we were impressed with the fact that baseball really was in the spotlight. Other clubs offered little more than just social gatherings with music.
I'm sure you'd agree that many of the speakers that have visited us during membership meetings have been entertaining, informative and in some cases truly memorable! We're going to do what we can to bring in more of these wonderful people with stories to tell. We will also have trivia nights and other special events on the future.
In 2024, we are planning a day trip via bus to see the Cubbies take on The Tampa Rays in St. Petersburg. We will get the details announced as soon as we possibly can. The details of this event are being pieced together by our events director Jim Guleserian. Jim also favors us all with his monthly presentation of "LET'S PLAY TOO".
Each of our board members are dedicated to helping the Cubs World family attend meaningful and enjoyable gatherings. In fact, we have some wonderful ideas for the future on the table and in order to achieve what we have in mind we are asking for a helping hand. We have an opening or two available for an "at large" position. If you had such a title you would attend our board meetings which are held every third Monday at 3 pm. at Colony. You would have a voice while items on the agenda are being discussed.
I would like to extend an invitation to everyone. Why not attend a board meeting to see how we work? Just contact me at waynesongs@sbcglobal.net
By the way, I get a great deal of enjoyment in putting this newsletter together with my editor, Dan Marx. I know many of you have some things you'd like covered in upcoming editions and we'd like to know what they are. Please let us know.
It will be an honor to serve as president and I thank everyone for their vote of confidence.
